Where Will the Horses Go?
Our coalition is working to place every retired carriage horse into a sanctuary where they can enjoy proper care and peaceful retirement.
There are approximately 160 horses that will need sanctuary placement.
We have a network of sanctuaries and private homes that meet the strict welfare criteria.
Each sanctuary is carefully vetted to ensure that horses receive appropriate nutrition, medical care, turnout, and socialization.
This initial list has been submitted to the City of New York along with Ryder’s Law
Why It Matters:
Retirement is not a luxury it is a basic requirement for humane treatment. Providing sanctuaries protects horses from abuse, neglect, and life-threatening situations after their working careers end.

If you are interested in offering lifelong placement for a retired NYC carriage horse, please complete the application.
This form helps us identify qualified sanctuaries, rescues, retirement facilities, and private horse owners who may be willing to provide lifelong care, foster care, rehabilitation, or adoption opportunities for former carriage horses.
Submitting this form does not guarantee placement and does not obligate you to accept a horse. It simply allows us to assess potential placement options and build a network of safe homes.
